Every time I order something in the mail, I get pissed off that the government is letting my package sit in the middle of no where for a day because ZOMG SUNDAYS ARE FER CHURCH.
But if the gov't is going to ignore Separation of Church and State, why stop there? Let's give all prison guards Sunday off. Let all the military leave their posts on Sunday. Tell cops their new motto is "Protect and serve, unless it's a Sunday -- then everyone should be in church anyway!" And since Jews are such an integral part of Christ's return, let's do the same thing with Saturdays.
You can take my mail, you can take my booze, so just let me know what else I can do for you in order not to offend your religious leanings and I'll gladly give those things up for you, too! *nodnod* I wouldn't want to spark a new war on Christianity, after all.
For some reason I'm drawing a blank trying to think of fun dinners to make for kids (age 4 & 6) that doesn't include pasta. I can do something boring like chicken and mashed potatoes I suppose, but thats..boring. I looked but I didn't see any communities on LJ that were just Kids Recipes, know of any?
The kids aren't too picky, but they aren't very adventurous either, I'm stuck, help please :)
Does anyone have a recipe/basic instructions for a chili that freezes really well? Those that are heavy on the tomatoes, include cilantro, and are light on the beans, are especially appreciated.
I set about to make fried chicken this evening and I was determined to get it right this time. Sadly, I didn't. The coating didn't stick to the chicken and the skin underneath seemed to have steamed or something. As soon as I went to bite into it, the coating came off and the ugly skin was exposed.
Flavorwise, it was great. And the chicken stayed moist. I just don't understand why the coating didn't stick. Oh, also, there was like a film on the oil when it was cooking (Crisco - the solid stuff). The film reminded me of the film I get when I make stock - you know, right at the beginning when it all gets to boiling? Yeah .. it reminded me of that.
Here's what I did:
Seasoned chicken (w bones in) w salt, pepper and paprika. Dredged in flour. Dredged in eggs (just eggs) Dredged in seasoned bread crumbs (store bought, nothing fancy, nothing added to it by me)
I heated up the oil in my cast iron skillet and when it was hot, I dropped a few pieces in ... When it was done, like I said, the skin under the coating was weird and the bread crumbs didn't stick. This is the first time I've used breadcrumbs instead of flour .. was that the problem?
One of these days I'm going to get it right .. I just know it! Meanwhile, does anyone have an idea as to why the coating came off?
My uncle's got a few cherry trees that he completely neglects. He doesn't take care of them, he doesn't spray them with any sort of chemicals (yay!), and generally leaves the fruit to the birds.
This year I got there first. :) I've got well over half of a gallon-sized baggie full of them. Ideas on what I can make with them?
We have no dietary restrictions, though healthier is better, IMO. I'd really like to wow my (picky, afraid-to-try-new-things) parents, so even unhealthy is cool if it tastes spectacular. :)
So, I have no idea what to make for dinner tonight. I have ground beef, a plethora of various types of canned beans, canned tomatoes, canned mushrooms, chicken broth and most major spices. I've been looking online and everything is suggesting chili or something similar, but the wife is preggo and can't stand the sight of chili right now. Anyone have any brilliant ideas? :)
ETA: I also have pasta in various shapes and sizes :).

I have about 2 cups of fresh pesto leftover from our party the other day. I'd like to use it today, before it goes bad. Does anyone have any suggestions on what I can do with it?
TIA!!! PS: I'm allergic to seafood so that is not an option :(
damn it's good to be home. i have never missed Mississippi so much in my life. I didn't realize how long 6 weeks was.
Coming home was very hard, because if you remember, we have a flea infestation in my house. So while we were gone our living room couch was burned, and things were moved around in the house so they could be cleaned and all. So when we got home, nothing was like we remembered it. I think that was really hard for me. I just sat there petting the cats and cried myself to sleep the first night. I felt really lost. Over the next couple of days I realized what was going on, and my jet lag had worn off, so things were better and are getting better every day.
Hmm.. what to say...well I don't want to say too much about italy. I had a fucking great time and I can't wait to go back a third time. Next time though I'm doing one week in italy and one week in Amsterdam. I must see the Anne Frank house, on top of a couple of other things haha. I miss italy so much already. The food is great, the people are great, and traveling is so easy and fun over there.
If you want to see my pictures and you're a friend on facebook they're up!
Hello. I’m a just-joiner of tradtattoos. I’ve belonged to a few other tattoo communities here and there. I hope that this community works out. I think I’ve seen one too many poorly executed sprite tattoos. So at the advice of an old friend, here I am.
I have five tattoos. So I guess what I’ll do is just go down the line? And hope that this post won’t be too long for anyone’s attention span. Some of the photo quality is laaaaack. As for being work safe? Its not terrible, but cleavage is there a bit. ( Here it goes in reverse chronological order… )
I've been working on my leg for almost 8 years now and I want to cover it all the way up to the knee... but I'm unsure how to break it off in a tasteful way. It's more like puzzle work than actual pieces as I didn't plan it out correctly when I first started. Haha. So really, I was wondering if any of you had any ideas?
Hey, I have smoked Zanzibar Xtreme Cloves, but I find them not as good as most specialty cloves. Yes they are cheaper, come in a cool box, with nice packaging. But when given a choice, I'll choose DJarum!
We had gone to the wedding of a friend at a small bed and breakfast west of Cloudcroft, New Mexico. There were quite a few oddities that I photographed along the way, and this is one of my favorites.
The location was very near to White Sands National Parks which is one of the most beautiful places we had ever seen. Describing it and sharing the photographs would be an entirely separate blog entry.
The wedding consisted of our friend Ladawn, her fiance Dan, and us. The venue was the Good Life Inn Bed & Breakfast and Chapel, owned by a married lesbian couple. The first wife conducted the ceremony, and the second wife took photographs. Because of the secluded location and privacy, the whole weekend was very nice and relaxing. I also wrote a very nice 30-page short story of the place while I was there.
Unfortunately, Dan and Ladawn only stayed married 4 months. Dan is in the Air Force and was taking a tour of duty in Korea and didn’t want to be married. The logic of this reasoning escapes me, but I didn’t bother wasting time worrying about it.
I’ll refrain from sharing the photograph of the dead steer I took as we departed at the end of the weekend.
